Help Me Internets Strikes Back!

Okay, Internet, since you were so helpful last time I had one of these questions, maybe you can answer this one for me too.

When I was a wee tyke I remember getting scared absolutely witless at a Cubs' camp¹ by Baloo telling a "ghost story". I don't remember many of the details, only that it involved people getting taken over by computers. If I recall correctly there were scenes with zombie-like unwilling cyborgs lurching around with wires and cables coming out their noses and square eyes that shone like old CRT monitors.

Now, when I was a little older I remember picking up a book in the bookstore that had the same plot as Baloo's story; I can only assume he was paraphrasing it for us. I think it was a Dean Koontz novel, but I'm not sure. It would have to've been written prior to about 1993, for whatever that's worth.

So, Internets, can you help me?
